Sony DRU-530A updates

I have a Sony DRU-530A DVD burner, less than 1 year old.
Now Sony has the new DRU-710A Dual Layer Burner
Rumor is that some of the Sony drives were made by LiteOn

How can I tell if mine was made by them and what the
corresponding LiteOn Model would be ?

Also, does anyone know if my old drive can be Firmware
Updated to do the Dual Layer Burning like the new DRU-710A ?

I would hate to have to buy another drive since this one is
so new.

Speaking of updates, does anyone know if I can update my Toyota Prius gas/electric hybrid to put a Porsche enging in it along with the electric? I would love to have dual exhaust and high horsepower in my electric car.

Ummmm, I doubt you can update your burner to dual layer.

I just bought an NEC dual layer 8X for $71 including shipping.
