I have an old Seagate 1GB hard drive. I am searching around for a new bigger, faster hard drive because I am tired of having to wait forever for games/windows to load, and i have to run my disk compressed. My new mobo supports UltraDMA 66 ( it's a M748mr, don't laugh, I got a great deal on it ) at least that's what it says in the maunal. With the size of the drive not being important, what would be my best option to go with for speed and price? UltraDMA33 or 66? 5400RPM or higher? 9.5m seek time or lower? what makes the best combo for the performance and price?

If you really want performance, then go with a SCSI Ultra Wide drive. Course, you will need a SCSI card for that. When looking for a drive..just watch the numbers. ATA 66 is nice...and the DMA 33 si cool...but both of those are burst rates, not constant rates. not many drives are ATA 66. The faster the RPM the better of course. Try reading some reviews on www.cnet.com or www.zdnet.com. They do a good job rating. I always look for drives that win the editors choice award then compare those. A nice place to look up prices for drives is
