Well, this should be easy to fix.
I had a 32MB PC-100 DIMM in DIMM1 on my mobo. My girlfriend traded me a 32MB DIMM for a 4MB video card. I am running a Celeron333a so I know the clock is set at 66Mhz for the RAM, but how can I find out what speed the other DIMM is. It has no visible markings on the chip. Is there a program somewhere that will give you this kind of information?

Try "SPD Checker" from Vanguard. Sorry, I can't remember the website at the moment. If I do, I'll post it.
Unless the DIMM has a PC100 label, the chances are that it is standard 66MHz. Nevertheless, that doesn't necessarily mean it won't run higher. A lot of those old 66MHz DIMMs overclock way beyond expectations. Best way to find out is to try it and see.

Ok, well.. hold up.
I went to the site, downloaded the program, ran it, but it said I didn't have PIIX4.. what does that mean?
I am running a P2 mobo.

gradius, Not sure why it does not work for you....after running thia you should get a window saying who the manufacture is,
the dimm's part#, Size,type, and I-spec.
also what slot it is in, it is a real cool program

PIIX4 is the Intel Bus Master controller. With a PII mobo you must have an Intel chipset, so download the Bus Master file from the Intel website and install it in your PC. Or it should be on the CD-ROM (possibly in a folder called "Drivers") that came with your mobo.

Will it work with a PIII? I tried it too, and it didn't work, said I need PIIX4.

Socalgal, what does it say under Hard Disk Controllers in Device Manager? Any mention of PIIX4?
But Roy is right. The chip inscriptions would be a lot more informative and reliable than DIMM ID anyway. Roy is a wizard at chip identification.

I tried Dimm ID on my RAM - not very helpful. All it said was that it is PC-100. In fact it is CAS Latency 2 capable of 133MHz.
If you will tell us the numbers on an individual chip, we'll try to determine its specifications.

Ok, I've read over the replies, and poked around trying to fix the problem.. Not that great luck.
I have a M748mr Motherboard with the Xcel2000 100Mhz chipset. (running a Celeron 333 not o/c) I checked by CD that came with the motherboard and couldn't find anything. Upon looking at Intel's website, I found something http://developer.intel.com/design/chipsets/drivers/busmastr/index.htm that might be of some help. I'm still at a lost of what to do.
