I've been on leave for the past 2 weeks and I'm due to return to work on Monday morning (6th Sept) :(

My job currently abides by American National Holidays, not British! A Canadian told me this past week that they have Monday off for some reason she didn't make clear!

Does this holiday also apply to Americans? If so - what are "we" ( ;) ) celebrating\mourning!

I've been doing this for 5 years and used to have a list of American lazy dayz, but don't remember a holiday at this time of year! Outlook 2000 doesn't want to display any holidays whatsoever (even though I have American & British selected).

Thanks in Advance.

Shoot in America most people don't work when they are at their nine to five. I know I just chill around the office and shoot the breeze.

Gezz I miss Ireland, you Americans don’t get enough time of at all, and I don’t think you get as many as the Brits, they would be nearly the same as Ireland IN the Holiday sense, I mean at christmas you get of for that day, and that’s it, your back to work the next day, In Ireland it mandatory for any company to close on the 23rd and then open on the 3rd. that gives us Irish plenty of time to soper up :)

Seems to me I read a stat that Americans on avg. take/get less holiday and vacation time than the rest of the world. And it's KILLING us. All in search of the mighty buck.

The personal holiday quota for Americans is atrocious (Canadians too)! I hear most have to earn their holidays over a period of years!

Most guys I meet get only 2\3 weeks p\a, I get at least 5 weeks and they complain that I'm always on leave. :D

It's the "National" Holidays where America gets the extra day.

No pun indented when I say this, and please don’t take offense to it, but I think its lag or family morals, to blame you have your government, I mean my sis in law just had a baby not to long ago, she had to be back in work in less than 5 weeks, in Ireland they get 6 months maternity leave paid, and on top of that the poor girl had 1000's of dollars worth of Bills, my wife has some problems with pain and her bills are just unreal, I am blest to have good Job. but back to the subject 1 day of for xmas 2 weeks year for Vacation, you may get added days after 5 years but that’s not all companies, its all about money, I mean not in my life did I ever see a 75 year old man working when I lived in Ireland over here, its out of control, yes some do want to work I give them that, but most of the people I have talked to have to work are they cant afford to get medical. In my book that’s just not right. dont get me wrong here now either, I love the poeple over here I have nothing against the country (this is for monitorying reasons) lol :)

and the US do get less time of than any other country in the world, and thats a crying shame it really is.

I dislike the fact that we observe MLK day in schools but not Columbus Day.

One guy - a real live off the land type - told me Columbus was a "lyin', thievin', murderin' SOB"! Needless to say, I was shocked to hear this at first ...considering how he loved his American lifestyle and his wife is a Military person.

It just goes to show that you can please some of the ppl some of the time, and you can please some of the ppl all of the time, You can even please all of the ppl some of the time, But you can't please all of the ppl all of the time.

"dif'rent strokes ...", I s'pose. :t

Yeah, but it gets to me when it becomes a habit to please a few of the people all of the time.

Just left a job were after 15 yrs I was getting 3wks vacation, 1 personal day per qtr. and 6 paid holidays. Where when a person would use one of those personal leave days they would give you so much static it almost wasn't worth it. Also, back a few yrs. ago I had to take a medical leave for major surgery and would be off for 3 months I truely believe that if they thought they could get away with it I would have been terminated.

And this while the Pres, VP and CFO all take extended vacations for months at a time a couple times a yr.

Thats because they don't actually do anything. Haven't you figured it out yet?

The more money you make the less work you do.
