I lost the link but the other day I was at
a site on new decive installation (mainly sound and video),
it said one of the primary cause for head aches was the improper uninstall of the device your replacing.
It said you should always reboot into safe mode - delete the device(s) - shut down and install new device. Whats been the the experence of guys & dolls?

Hi Gentle Giant ~

Now I always uninstall the previous component, remove the device from Device Manager, including software registry entries (sometimes "uninstall" doesn't fully uninstall; sometimes you get details, sometimes not), before adding new hardware. When I haven't, sometimes I end up with two devices and conflicts and have to remove it anyway. Then it usually happens that I have to remove the NEW one and start all over.

I usually just remove/uninstall, shut down, physically take out the device, put in the new one and reboot. I don't go into Safe Mode though (unless I'm really having problems).

I agree with socalgal. It runs true with programs too. It really isn't a hassle to uninstall first; doesn't really take that much time either -painless.
