1) Is there an on-line photoshop that doesn't need to be downloaded? Trying to clean up computer and just got rid of Cannon software that was over 4,000 MB.
2) Just upgraded to Microsoft XP Service Pack 2 that comes with pop-up blocker. Can I lose the Panicware Pop-up stopper that I have on my comp.?
3) Quicktime automatically starts when I turn my computer on. How do I stop that?

1) not too sure what you want. you mean an internet based photo editing software or just a program that you don't have to install on the hdd?
2) the SP2 popup blocker is decent. I would just disable the one you got for a while and test it out.
3) run msconfig and uncheck quicktime from the startup list.

***What's the difference between the two? Trying to keep hard drive clean and would like to find an on-line photoshop for my pics, but not have to dl onto my computer.
2) the SP2 popup blocker is decent. I would just disable the one you got for a while and test it out.
***Good idea. I'll try that.
3) run msconfig and uncheck quicktime from the startup list.
***Perfect. While there I found something called MSMSGS. It's at "C:ProgramFiles\Messinger\msmsgs.exe"/background. Any idea what it is? OBVIOUSLY some kind of message program, but what exactly and does it sound like something I need at startup?

1) some people say "download" when they mean "install to hdd". "download" and "online" usually refer to the Internet. I don't really know of a free online service for that. I reckon it would be pretty slow too.
3) that's messenger. if you don't like that, use this program to kill it.

***So you're saying this is some sort of Microsoft Windows Messenger program like say AOL Instant Msg or something like that?

Not new to XP, but new to seeing what's on my Startup page. So really, is this something I should remove from Startup OR from my computer completely. Obviously I don't use it.

DONE and thanks to all for the help.
ALSO, while on the Startup page I see that I have the following:
C:ProgramFiles\Java\j2re1.4.2_05\bin\jusched.exe
What is this and do I need it at Startup OR at all?

uncheck it.

jusched N jusched.exe Checks with Sun's Java updates site to see if newer Java versions are available. Visit http://java.sun.com or just run the Java Plug-In Control Panel

First off, thank you very much for all your help. I posted "3 questions" on a couple of other websites. One has zero responses and another only #3. Not only have you answered all, but INCREDIBLY quickly. MUCH appreciated.
Now, as to your above Java response I should mention that I'm EXCEEDINGLY low tech  . That stated, I sadly don't understand your answer. So, if we could try it again but this time pretend you're speaking to a 2 year old.

run msconfig and uncheck it from startup. sounds like you might use it, since many website have java. jusched is an automatic updater for java. you don't need it running at startup.
if you have further questionable files, go to the link I provided and look them up. I can't hold your hand through the whole thing.

Did everything we said above, restarted my computer, and got this msg:
You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts. The S.C.U. is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode, causing this msg to be displayed and the utility to run everytime Windows starts. Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you have made using the S.C.U.
(Box that can be checked) Don't show this msg or launch the S.C.U. when windows starts (Then an OK box)
Clicked ok and that brought me straight to the SCU where I clicked ok on the selective option. Said I needed to restart my computer to make the changes take effect. Did so and got the msg again. This time clicked the box so the msg wouldn't show again and was promted to restart computer. Did so and all OUR Startup changes were undone. Unclicked again, restarted AND HAVE THE S.C.U. MSG AGAIN!!!
What do I need to do? thanks.

ok goto Start>run and type msconfig again
uncheck the ones u dont want...ie Mssngr, quicktime ect
then click done/apply and restart
when comp boots it will give the same message "you have recently used the blah blah" All u need to do here is check the box which says "dont display this message again" and your done.
you did most of it but basically instead of checking the box u went back to the scu and undid everything!
Windows just displays that message as an annoying confirmation thats all.
Good luck :t
