I got the rest of my parts today, so I went to my buddys house and we got to work. 3.2northwood, ASUS P4C800-E mobo, and Corsair PC3200 XMS Twin X 1gig.

All was put together, we went straight to the BIOS setup screen to start tweaking some settings, it restarted and it keeps coming up with the error message:

"No drive attached to FastTrack controller... BIOS not installed"

We went back into setup and restored all the dafault settings and reboot numerous times, each with the same error message. I thought it might be a problem with the round IDE cables I had, so I even switched to the set that came with the mobo. No luck.

I'm on my parents computer trying to figure this out and possible get a BIOS update disk off ASUS's site to try and reflash tomorrow.

Thanks for any help!

You plugged the hard drive into the standard hard drive controller and you do not have any drives plugged into the Promise Fasttrack 20378 RAID controller.

Don't worry about it and install Windows.

Ok, my mistake, that was a total 3am newb moment.

I went into the BIOS and disabled the Promise Controller (was going through ASUS' site last night on my parents computer. THAT problem is solved).

However, I keep getting a screen saying there was a problem loading Windows due to a hardware or software error. I am giving the options of

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with prompt

Start with last known good settings
and
Start windows normally

Regardless of which option I choose, it "thinks" for a minute, then reboots itself to the main BIOS screen until it gets back to the error loading Windows screen. If left alone, it chooses after 30 seconds and basically continues to reboot and do the same thing.

XP was already installed on this harddrive. I was running a Sony VAIO with this HD, I then changed the case, power supply, and video card and was running fine with everything else. Last night all that was changed to the system was the mobo, processor, and RAM. Shouldnt I still be able to load XP like normal and load up all the new ASUS drivers?

You've already got one post for this question, why do you need another one? ;)
