I am working a system with WIN 98 It is a 686 running at 233 - I have not yet opened the computer up yet but there was a hang-up with Windows. I reformated the hard drive from a DOS boot disk but now I get the following error when I try to re-install 98:
"Boot Sector Virus; Continue Yes? No?"

It does not continue but freezes

Could the BIOS have a virus? Or could there still be something left on the hard drive
I used Norton latest updates to scan the boot disks
Thanks for anyone's help

most newer bios platforms .... AWARD for one....
has a program embedded called Trend Boot Protector ...or somthin along the lines of this but, anyways, there is an option in the bios that lets you turn the bios virus protector off...that is what the message is about... the reason the message is stated is that the win98 setup tried to rewrite the HDD's boot sector and the bios caught it thinking it was a virus of somesort and intentionally hung the machine because it wouldnt let the "virus" continue...
****the DEL key gets you into the AWARD bios****
