installed new TX-PRO II mainboard, 128 mem stick and IBM 10gig to computer. Now I am the lucky owner of the slowest computer in town! When clicking on a icon I wait 5-10 seconds for response ....I can hear the HD clicking off& on almost like it dozes then wakes again. Works great just slow. Graphic drivers installed, mainboard drivers installed....i am at a loss at what to do. Is possible the wait state is adjusted wrong?........help!
Have you set your dma/pio modes in your bios? It shouldn't make THAT big of a difference though, but it's all I can think of.
Oh, also, maybe if it's a new drive...maybe there's some glitch with ATA66, check IBM's technical support.

I think its the TX chipset that only uses 64megs of RAM effectively, any more and it slows down a lot... , if you got a 64mb or 32mb stick try putting that in instead and see what it does.

VERY likely that you disabled the L1 cache or the L2cache.... (either on chip or onboard)....
either of these disabled will severly slow down the system....
check youre bios....

Win95/98 never cope very well with motherboard upgrades (just too many drivers to update/install). Assuming you haven't, and nothing else works, already try re-installing Win98.
Also make sure DMA box is checked under the device manager -> disk -> settings, as I have a 10G IBM (16GP) and this didn't get set automatically on my machine (and really made a differnce).

The amount of installed memory is NOT the problem, going over 64 MB on a TX board will barely make a difference that is detectable by human senses. I have a TX board (shuttle Hot 569) with 233mhz Pentium and 128MB memory and it open apps about at the snap of my fingers.
I would side with Jokostel, and look there first.
Next, I would check very carefully for problems relating to the hard disk. To start, check the device manager for conflicts. Next, give the drive mfgrs website a visit. I would also recommned that you install the latest Intel busmaster IDE drivers - I believe it is version 3.02.
continued diagnostics: set your drive as primary master and physically remove all other hard drives and CDROMs and then check if the problem is still there.
I ran into a computer that used the same port address and IRQ for a CDROM and hard drive that were on the same data cable/ IDE channel but the device manager showed no conflict - that was the slowest system I ever saw. it worked but took like 5 minutes to open the control panel. It turned out that a DOS driver that specified port/IRQ settings in autoexec.bat was to blame.
