I'm running Win95B. I installed a Mustek SCSI Scanner the other day and everything worked just fine for two days. If I try to use the scanner now, all the scanner software locks up the computer. All other installed programs work fine. I booted the computer in "safe mode" and tried to run a program. Computer locks up and Crtl+Alt+Del won't get me out of the lockup. Have to do a "dirty" shutdown with no "shutdown" sequence. FirstAid98 tells me "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KERNEL32.DLL caused an Access Violation fault in module KERNEL32DLL at 014F:BFFA67B6. What in the heck is that? Mustek tells me it is not a problem with their scanner, and that it's a Windows problem. I know my way around Windows fairly well, but this is beyond me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Perhaps a deletion and reinstallation of the scanner will help you. Don't forget to check device manager for anything obvious. It's normally something silly that messed up.

a Bill,
Thanks for your suggestion. I thought about reinstalling the scanner and all the software, but the Device Manager says that the SCSI Controller is working properly. Can all three scanner software have the same problem? They are the only applications that lock up my computer. I am still concerned about the "Violation Fault in module KERNEL32.DLL".
Any more thoughts?
Doug

Well, it said the SCSI controller was functional but it didn't say anything about the scanner http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif If all the programs you have for the scanner lock it up, then it looks like a conflict with that software.
I'm pretty dumb when it comes to memory usage and whatnot but the 014F:BFFA67B6 number you posted is a memory address that one program wanted to use but another had already laid claim to.
Since the programs seemed to work fine for two days, I would be led to believe you installed or used another software program since then that "stepped on another programs toes". There are many software programs that just don't get along because they want to use the same memory addresses. Sometimes you can cheat past the problem by reinstalling the older program after installing the newer program that caused the conflict.
Unfortunately, I do not know the addresses for the devices so I can't say which program or device wanted the memory and which should have had it. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hopefully another more knowledgeable individual will step in with a bit more info.

a Bill,
I got notification that you responded to my reply, but nothing is there. ???
Is there anything that I'm missing? I'm new to the Forum.

a Bill,
Your reply just got here. Thanks for the advice. I'll delete and reinstall the scanner software tonight and see what happens.
Thanks again.

a Bill,
As you suggested, I uninstalled and re-installed the scanner software twice. Didn't help. Still locks up. This last time I only installed Micropraphx Picture publisher and when I try to "aquire" a picture, it locks up. It won't let me access the TWAIN window and doesn't make the noises it used to. I think the scanner is defective.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks,
Doug
