I was wondering if it’s possible for someone to drop a Trojan on your rig when opening a direct\send file transfer in aim, even if you’re the one sending the file.

The reason I ask is I know this guy that wanted a small program from me. I sent it to his hotmail account and he came back and told me “windows deleted it”, “send it in aim transfer”. I told him to check his hotmail account (I don’t have his regular ISP email address), he then told me to send it by aim transfer. I told him again to check his hotmail account, he then told me messenger deletes attachments. I asked him if he knows how to get attachments and he said “don’t doubt my intelligence” and “forget it dude”. He then says “you’re making drama out of a 2 sec transfer”, “transfer it thru aim or drop it”, I’m thinking you just brought it back up, “I know how to check my e-mail”. I reply by saying how come you can’t get attachments? He replies “it is not coming and i'm getting irritated”. Asked why he’s getting mad and he says later and signs off.

Just to inform you, I had a Trojan scare about a week or so ago. A few days prior to the “scare” he was bragging about how he knows how to drop Trojans on people’s computers, how to “blow them up” so they get kicked off-line. It also seemed like he was bragging about losing his job at gateway because of some of his slick moves (won’t go in to detail about that).

AIM transfer = Open Port on your pc:x Which is all a trojan needs to crawl up your backside.

That’s kinda what I was thinking. Found it suspicious that he was getting all worked up because I wouldn’t allow a file transfer. Thanks for the assurance Steve.

Yes, it is very possible to get a trojan via AIM transfer. If he's sooooo insistent on using AIM, somethings up. I dunno why he can't do it via email. I wouldn't do it. But if you must, I'd recommend looking into IMSecure: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_ims.jsp

Yeah I don’t know what his beef was. Well actually I think I know exactly what it was. I sent it to his e-mail, so if he wants it that bad it’s in his inbox. I don’t plan on any “transfers” of any kind with this guy. And to think that I’ve picked up some beers a couple of times and went over to his pad. He lives in the same building, that’s how we met, he was outside having a cookout.

More proof on why I have 4 friends and many acquaintances.

Sounds like someone has a personal scrore to settle with you. Personally I'd start being careful around the apartment building, too.

From what you're saying, he sounds like a creep who gets a kick out of screwing people over. You were nice enough to e-mail the file. Not the kind of person you need, even as an acquintance ;)

Since he's close, give it to him on a cd, along with a couple o' beers :D
