1. How can one utilize digital connectors on motherbords, sound card and CD-ROMs?

2. I have digital sound connector on motherbord and I wonder if I can use it to send digital sound signal to amplifire with digital input.

3. Are there any standards or norms describing digital sound connectors?

No, you can't do that. Your soundcard is built on the motherboard, correct? The digital input on the m'board is there to connect to the CD-Rom drive's digital output. In order to send digital signals out to a amp/receiver, minidisc or whatever, the soundchip on the m'board would have to support using a external bracket (if the connections aren't built in) that has the digital outs on it.

You can still send the audio signals to an amp or receiver using the lineout connector. You'll need to get Y-adapter.

Over at Creative, there may be some thing you may be interesed in http://www.sblive.com/experience/general/hometheater.html I guess DolbyLabs will have more. http://www.dolby.com/

Well, ya know, the SB-Live comes with that digitable cable that goes between the CD and sound card.

The SPDIF connector spec I think is different from normal CD-Digital output, because the real CD out is 16bit 44.1Khz, and the PC is 24bit at a different freq.

Sounds confusing to me... can someone shed a little more light?

My motherbord has 24bit Digital Audio Interface (SPDIF) IN/OUT.

Do I need any card or special cable to send digital signal from motherbord (SPDIF) IN/OUT connector to digital connector on home theater system. If so where to buy those things.

I never use or see any cable that can connect digital output from CD-ROM to motherbord.

I know that one way to have digital sound output from PC is to buy SB Live! with digital output but it cost $160. I hope there is cheaper way to do so.
