directx corrupt?

I installed the new star trek birth of the federation game on my AMD 350 with a mystique 220 and voodoo 1 w/ win98 (I don't play many graphical games) and it worked fine the first night. The next day when I go to run it the screens colors screw up and the machine locks up completely. Dx diag locks up the machine too... I tried uninstalling it, but I think I did it via the win update page so there is no choice in the control panel. Can I manualy uninstall it and then reinstall?

directx does not uninstall easily. If you go on softseek.com you may find some utily to remove it but the way I always did it was removing all entries through the registry and then reinstall it. Or just download 6.1 and it should update you. It has a diagnostic utilty to tell you if everything is running OK
