When I scan a letter, the scanner picks up every little thing including the paper pot holes in the paper. Therefore, a white piece of paper looks like parchment paper and the file becomes real big. At the same time it is not what I want. I adjust the contrast, but I am not sure. That same sheet of paper under a xerox machine would only copy the text!
I also tried to use textbridge classics to pick out just the text, but since a couple of words were in color (even though I scanned in greyscale), it gave me an error message saying color/greyscale not supported. Is there a better way? Thanks

The only thing I can think of is try a lower resolution setting. 75dpi or 100dpi should be sufficient.

also you may try turning down a brightness setting if you have one.
to get the size of the document to print and come out the same size as the original on most scanners, (unless they have some software that sizes automatically) set your resolution to the same as your printer, (if your printer, prints at 600 dpi, scan at 600 dpi) to scan a document to be faxed, scan at 200 dpi for High resolution, 100 dpi, for low resolution (this is dependant on your fax software)if there is no setting to change to either High or low resolution you'll have to experiment and try either 100 or 200 dpi, to get document to be the same size as orignal when just viewing on your monitor try 72 dpi,
On the color issue, does the software included in you scanner have a black and white, or line art setting, if it does try either one of these

Photocopiers perform noise reduction (to remove small specs etc). Try running the scanned image through a noise filter in Paint Shop Pro or similar (perhaps your scanner software has an option).
