I'm trying to run a piece of hardware that is having a lot of problems with it's connection to the PC.

I contacted the manuf. of the periferal and they said that if it's an ALI or SIS chipset then I am out of luck and will need to buy an external USB card.

So... does anyone know which chipet is used on the r3000 laptops?

thx all ;)

Open System Information (MSINFO32.EXE) and navigate to Hardware Resources > IRQs. Click anywhere in the right pane and then press CTRL-A and then CTRL-C. You have copied that data to the clipboard. Paste that data in a reply here.

Tell us about the device and what happens when you try to install it.

Well the PC belongs to a friend, so I won't be able to post system info right now.

As for the device. It is a Termlab SPL meter.

It's made for measuring sound pressure for car audio competitions.

There is a power & status light on the breakout box. Both are lit up as they should be.

There is a utility in the program in which you can probe the external pressure sensor, and when you use this program the "status" light flashes, which leads me to believe it is seen by the PC.

The problem is that the software doesn't even begin to read. As soon as you start the program and click "start" it should start to read ambient sound. Right now it does nothing ;)

I would have posted the info about the device before but I really doubt anyone here would know anything about it, so I was just hoping for info on the USB chipset in hopes of just finding out if that is the problem :D

See if something in the following link will help, seems there are quite a few R3000 derivatives and only one R3000. Might need to find out if that is the exact model or not.

HP/Compaq link (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/pfinder?query=r3000&dest_page=product&en%3F=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en)

The chipset ID is in the IRQ list.

Laptops sometimes do not provide full power to USB ports. Normally, that's no biggie, but devices that get all of their power from the USB port may not work well on laptops.
