Why you should upgrade?
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/messenger/win/tech/tech-12.htmlIn our commitment to providing a safe and secure experience, we issued a security update to Yahoo! Messenger customers on August 12, 2004. This update protects our customers from a security vulnerability identified in an open source code, which is utilized by Yahoo! Messenger.
Yahoo! learned of this issue through a notice issued by the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team. Customers may be vulnerable to crashes and attacks when surfing unknown sites on the Internet. A more technical explanation is located on the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team web site at:

We are notifying customers who are currently running Windows versions 6.0 to install the security update. Upon signing in to Yahoo! Messenger, customers will be prompted with a message window that invites them to update their service.
If you are using a version of the All New Yahoo! Messenger obtained before August 10, 2004 on a Windows PC. Yahoo! will notify you of the update when you sign in to Yahoo! Messenger. Select, Yes when asked if you want to update. If you have an issue installing the update, please visit the troubleshooting page.
