Hi
I'm not absolutely green at this but boy has this got me confused
After several 3.00am's trying to sort it I am no further on
The situation is this...
I am on cable broadband thro a cable modem
My router connects to the modem
My network did have 2 PC's 1 on XP Home and the other on XP Pro and it all worked fine, each could see the others shared files and both could use the printer attached to the XP Home PC. They also had internet access
Now I decide to get my old Win 98SE P233 out the loft for my younger daughter...
After my 1st failed attempt (using the disk that XP made) I read up on the internet and followed this detailed instruction to the letter but although the win 98 PC had internet access it could not see the other PC's or be seen
I then noticed I only 1 light on that connector on the router, I changed cable still 1 light on that port.
Today I replace the Win 98 PC's ethernet card (An old ISA one) with a PCI (As I has no spare PCI Slots I had to remove the CD Burner & PCI SCSI Card and replace with an old CD Rom)
So I went thro the checks again and still no joy
Current situation
All 3 PC's have internet access
XP PC's can see each other
Win 98 PC can only see itself
All are in the same workgroup
All have NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled
All have at least 1 shared folder
I have ran ipconfig on each machine to get ip address
Both XP PC's can ping the Win 98 and get an instant reply
Neither XP machine can get a reply from the other (strange when they can see each other if I use windows find computer!!)
Win 98 PC cannot get a reply from any other PC or see them in Network Neighbourhood
All the used ports on the router have both lights lit
One last thing the XP PC's also have a TCP/IP version 6 installed as well as the normal TCP/IP although I don't know why that would make any difference
Any help would be appreciated because I've ran out of ideas apart from installing XP on the old machine which I would expect to make it run like a snail
thanks:)
