Anyone, a friend I know, who is rather new to computers, bought a full system with tons of software and stuff from a company called Patriot at Christmas. It's a p2 300, I can't remember all the specs, nevertheless, it has a i740 intel graphics card.

When I go to play any 3d game on his system (NHL 99, NFS3, etc etc) the game quits with no error message. When he called the helpline (I talked for him) they said to change the Windows and game resolution to 640x480.. but still the same thing happened in all the games.

He sent it back, the reinstalled everything , still the same problem (btw it's running Win 98)

I seem to think this is a video driver problem.

Any ideas?

You could try a new driver but I doubt it will make that much of a difference. I have the i740 and can't wait to get rid of it. It's not a bad card for 35$-but don't expect to play games on it.

Make sure there is nothing running in the background when gaming-especially anti-virus.

Also try putting your taskbar in Auto Hide sometimes it helps-don't know why.

I wish I could be more positive http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

One more thing-set it to 16 bit color when gaming. Here's the site for the drivers.

And another link with info. developer.intel.com/design/graphics/drivers/ (http://developer.intel.com/design/graphics/drivers/)

See if it works with DirectX 6 installed.
