which one do you choose? half of you are going to say Doom 3 of course but c'mon Painkiller takes Doom 3 out in the blood category. Graphically wise I'd have to say Doom 3 but Painkiller is by no means a back burner game when it comes to the graphics either. Storyline they both have good stories. Weapons are of short hand I noticed in both games. What do you people think?

I wonder why Painkiller never took off with mods? As a matter of fact you don't even hear too much about the multi-player aspect of the game.

Doom 3 is great long as you don't intend on replaying it. It's an excellent tech demo, but it is just dragged out using the same couple gimmicks the entire game - not to mention everything looks kinda the same after awhile. Sure it looks excellent, but you kinda get tired of all the gloom when replaying as the scare factor and wow factors are gone.
I can't comment on Painkiller, sorry.

looks like a dead even contest
From my point of view, Painkiller is simply a shooter game and your only task is to shoot your way through all the levels. Doom 3 allows you to interact with the NPCs and find passwords/information to unlock something in the game. Regarding the storyline, both games don't have much stories either.
Yes! Doom 3 has a detailed graphics/sound effect which beats Painkiller but it needs a tough rig to generate those effects. Painkiller, on the other hand, can be played on a GeForce 4 MX440 128MB and it still can produce good graphical effects.
Overall, both games are a bit similar and if you have enough cash buy both of them instead and try them at home to get better reviews.

Doom 3... it's not a classic by any stretch of the mind and has severely limited replay value, but it is a good solid game.
Painkiller on the other hand gets bogged down by its repetetive "no brainer-ness" and gets very boring, very quickly (i played four levels and ended up bored out of my tree)

that's funny that you both say that but yet both games got the same score.
Painkiller was a little more fun. But my favorite FPS ever was Blood so that is probably why I say it.
When I played Doom 3 it felt like I've played the game before.. can't quite place it yet.

Star Trek: Elite Force 2......Maybe???:D
I find Doom3 quite similar to this...waepons, monsters etc.
Doom 3 is an awsome game...and graphics also the best u will have seen. But above is right....once I've completed it....I doubt I will play it again.

I D/L the painkiller demo, played one level of it and was so bored I started to play free cell instead. All I can really say it is...LAME!
D3 may be a tech demo, But I like it. I also liked Aqua Nox and Aqua Nox II, but I have always been a sucker for space/sub sims.

Painkiller is by no means a bad game at all you downloaded the demo which is nothing compared the full version of the game. Different areas of hell, no level is the same, hugh and I do mean hugh bosses to battle, gallons and gallons of blood.

I'm still stoked from doom3 but I liked painkiller also (yes it was boring in places) I would much rather run. jump and shoot than try to break into lockers (the fact that I did this several times shows how boring some of the early parts of doom were). Doom was far less buggy than painkiller but the sameness of doom is also a let down. Overall I would rate the games about the same.
I will buy the next painkiller game, unless they offer something different, I probably won't mess with doom again.
Enjoy!
