Two ways to get to the same place, either right-click on My Computer, select Properties or goto Control panel and select System, either way you'll see Microsoft Windows 95

and below is a version number, if there's a B or C after that version, then you have OSR2 or OSR2.5 respectively. If there is no number then you have Win95A, which is the original release.

What Jav has told you is correct, but 1st release of Windows 95 will say Win95, 1st release of Windows 95 with the Service pack installed will say Win95a

Where do I look to find out which version of Windows 95 I have installed?

Thanks for your help.

Thank you. Now that I know I have the original release of Windows 95, and wish to purchase some hardware that requires the version 4.003.1214 or later to operate, what is the easiest way to update my Windows 95 to the latest version of 95?

Thanks again.

Hi kitti ~

OEM Service Release 2.5
4.03.1214*
8/24/96-11/18/97

This is the release that you want then, and it's also known as Win95c. The easiest way is go out and buy it. The best way is to have a tech friend help you. Or you could just get Windows 98 and have the latest.

Are you planning to just upgrade or do a clean install?

If you are going to do a clean install, I would suggest getting Windows 98.

You would have to backup all your data and fdisk/format and do a clean install of Win98. It's a hassle, but it's worth it.

Good luck!
