Thanks to those who responded to my original question of what version do I have.
Now that I know I have the original release of Windows 95 and wish to purchase some hardware that must have version 4.03.1214 or later to operate, what is the easiest way to update my Windows 95 to the latest version?

I would just buy Win98 or ask around to see if anyone has the cd for Win95B

This site has about all the info available as well as links to the updates. I dont know how recient a version yours actually is but updating can be a really long job, especially if you have to reinstall OS at somtime and all the updates.
Otherwise ditto fishboy.

There is no easy way to upgrade to Win95C or OSR2.5 which is what I suspect you want, by stating you want to do for Hardware purposes, I'm guessing to be able to use a USB device, this version was never officially released to the general public, I was only put out as a full version OEM product, You can find it from on line vendors or at show's but since it is a full version only, you would have to reformat your hard drive install the OS and then reinstall all your other software and backups of your data, as fishboy has stated it would be alot easier to upgrade to Win 98
