I'm about three bios updates behind - I dont have any problems with my box so I
dont plan on updating at this time - but what is the rule when there are multiple updates.
Do you need them all or just the most current.
Soyo 5EH Board
Award bios - VP3 Chipset.
I updated once because it said the update was to add better support for my SCII 2940 UUW Card.
Thanks folks http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

You just need to install the most current version in most cases. I've seen where you to have a certain version or higher to update to the latest version though. Say you have version 5, the bios download page will tell you "You need at least version 7 to install the update to version 10.". Anytime I have ever ran into this, they always spell it out very plainly that you need to do something special. Unless you see anything like that, just get the latest version and install it. Be careful to follow all the directions, and don't turn off the machine until it is done. You attitude of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is perfect. BIOS updates can go awry and leave you stranded. So, unless you need to do it or are very comfortable with it, leave it alone.

It would be the most recent one only.

I think manufacturers keep the other versions available because of all the different combination of hardware people have. Compatability issues.

Well when you decide you want to update, visit Soyo's web site to obtain the most current version. Look to see if it says that this update contains all previous updates. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Chances are it will.

Ooopps, I guess I should have read further. Looks like 800XL covered it pretty well.

Later...Paul

I have run into a few, where the board version dictates which bios upgrade you can use.If it calls for a board revision/version number,it is normally silkscreened next to the keyboard connector. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks MR COMPUTER, looked for that also because the BIOS name and number dont look
like previose update I did, though the Board
and model appear to be right. I would
contact Soyo first if I felt I needed the an update.
