we are using the MS client for NetWare and I am wondering how I have the drive letter display before the path in windows explorer i.e., instead of DIAMOND_SYS\APPS (G http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I want G: (DIAMOND_SYS\APPS)

Not to familiar with Netware. Pleaes excuse me if I don't know what I'm talking about.

-double click My Computer icon.
-go to the View menu, Folder Options.
-click the View tab.

Near the top there is a box that can be checkmarked to 'Display the full path...'

You have to map the drive letters, either with your login script or manually from windows.

Check your mapping from a prompt. Can you change to a drive letter in question or do you have to use a unc?

Here's a command that works:

Map Root G:=volume:dIAMOND_SYS\APPS

or whatever your appropriate path.

I bet you didn't count on the Smiley face, did you?

Well, I see mapped drives all day long and I never thought about it, but your right.

I don't know how to get it to display like a regular drive path.

It'd be a good trick!

the view-folder-options thing is only to display the full MS-DOS path in the title bar of the explorer window....

the drives are already mapped, is the a certain extra parameter to add to the mappig text to hide a path, or display the drive letter first.

i have co-workers who are trying to access shared drives and all they see when they use their explorer is something like--

DIAMON_SYS\APPS\ACCTG\GROUP-- and the rest is cut off because the folder list window is not large enough.

Ahhh...Now I see what you mean. That is how ALL drives are displayed in explorer (drive letter last), not just network drives. I looked right past what you were asking. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif

That is an interesting conundrum, though. I think that you have given me a good registry thrashing project. In the mean time, you could make a shortcut to winfile for them. There are some long file name issues with file manager but it does show drive letters first. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I have gotten a number of repsonse on this from people....so far here is what i have come up with....and thanks for all the response, hopefully MSFT will respond soon...

1. It is probably not changeable. I am waiting on a free support call from MSFT though.

2. CNE's from Novell say:

This is the way Explorer works and we all hate it, but MS does not
seem to listen...

If no one knows here, you may want to research this with MS since you are using their OS and client.

3. Workarounds include using Winfile.exe (Thanks MadMax) and in explorer and Office Apps, instructing users to go to 'My Computer' first them look for the drive they want.
