AOE II problems in Windows XP

hi, i have jst installed age of empires age of kings and the expansion pack that is AOE the conquerors. the problem is that once i installed the game and went to start the game a message appears saying "Could not initialize graphic system. Make sure that your video card and drivers are compatiable with direct draw" and i cant get the game started. ive updated my direct x and my graphic drivers but im having no luck getting it running, any ideas?

any1 got anu idea wat i can do to get this working? im downloaded most fixes from the microsoft web site.

Try downgrade your graphic drivers to 4.1, 4.2 , 4.3 , 4.4 , 4,5. Try some of them. :t

This isn't useful really, but at least you know someone with a similar setup got it working.

One of my machines is an Athlon XP 2800+, Asus motherboard, 1 GB dual channel RAM, and a Hercules Geforce MX440 video card. I am using version 61.77 of the Nvidia drivers, though I had been using earlier versions as well without any problems.
