Moving installed games to another PC?

Right, I am buyin' a new PC (I don't know much about PC's btw). Anyway, I have games installed on this PC and a lot of patches from when I downloaded them but the problem is that I have a 56k modem and it took a long time to download them.

I don't want to download them again so is it possible to transfer my games or patches without having to dowloading them again? Would it be possible to connect them like a LAN just to transfer the files or would I have to install the game again in order for it to work properly?

you cannot transfer the whole game copy 'n paste, but you could transfer the patches if you hooked your old hard drive up as a slave drive, and copied the data from one drive to the other. Other than copying the patch files you have stored, you'd have to reinstall the games from the CD's.
