Hi all! Here goes: new mobo. DFI P5BV3+, AGP 8mb card, Digital Research "cheapie" pci sound card, 64mp ram, Ibm 6x86 PR300 chip[hey it's my 2nd system!]. Will not hold video settings, and I have absolutely no sound at all. I downloaded and installed drivers and mobo settings, which are few, are correct. What am I doing wrong? PLEASE HELP ME I'M LOSING SLEEP! Seriously any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you have the "cheapie sound card " in the slot next to the agp card- Move it.Keep that slot empty. Check resources in device mgr for "Bumping". http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
What does it do when the sound card is removed? Will the video work ok?

Yes , BBA, the video continues to work, but it has'nt worked o.k. for me yet, whether I have the sound card in or not. This is my first experience with an AGP card. I can't seem to get my system to go beyond 16m colors. I have tried the drivers from the mobo cd, and I am pretty sure that this rev.-CEO+, is the latest. I have a Creative Banshee in my other system [pci] and a Creative AWE64 [isa] and neither of them have given me problems once I updated their drivers. Thanks for the reply. Maybe I have missed something obvious?
So this is socket 7 right?Make sure that you have the usb drivers installed.this helps agp alot on socket7 boards.

OK.S7 with 8meg Agp.Heres the drill.I don't know your board, but most require a"patch"file for Agp.Check DFI's site for that.Usb should be loaded/engaged,Direct X installed,Then the Agp card drivers.Which Agp card have you installed in this system?Win98 installs a generic driver for the Yamaha. You should see one portion/segment of the Yamaha in devices with a yellow bubble.Update this segment with the drivers cd. lemme know. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I just took a quick look at your board at DFI.Jeese! That board has more patch files/drivers/fixes/registry files than any three boards I own!!! You need (at least) the file agpvxd29.zip. Maybe this will get you out of 16 colors. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Hey Mr. Computer! Yea, I know about the shared agp/pci on pci slot 1. I have tried the card in all three slots and it is now in slot 2. For some reason win98 will not accept the yamaha drivers cd. Still waiting.....
Thanks for your reply, any other ideas I can try? I think my next step is to pick up a Creative Live! Value card for my main system and replace that cheapie with my ISA AWE64 card.

Hi all! Just wanted to update you guys as to where I am at with my video card. After re-loading all the drivers I could locate, I am currently at true color-24bit, and 800x600 pixels on a Nokia 14" monitor. I attempted to run "Half-Life" on it. Ha! It ran, but choppy. Like I said this is a 2nd system to use mainly for w.p. and such so I am not concerned about running games. I just did it to compare it to my other system. So I guess I'm o.k. for now. Thanks to all for your assistance! You guys are the best!

OH yea...DUHHHHH; I just realized my original post was about a sound card problem. I removed the 64bit Yamaha XG card and replaced with a recently unearthed circa 1992 S.B 16 Value card [obviously ISA]. No problems.

Digital Research Sound Cards
I will never own another one as long as I live! I spent many manhours trying to get it configured. And then it failed after 2 years. It was a pleasure to install another in its place! No hastle. I think you made the right choice by taking it out! Give it to your worst enemy.
