The +disconnect value/tweak (whatever you call it) is nice to know about, I was starting to get sick of seeing that iD intro after about 30 times! :P

Users with more than 512MB of RAM
Any of the above and “512” So it's okay to put "512" if I'm running 768MB of RAM?

Thanks :)

Only important for people who havent got their gamma set up properly in the first place...or for peopel who are scared of the dark (which kinda defeats the point of the game)

I was considering putting in information of that nature, but decided they were "fixes" rather than "performance tweaks" which the article is aimed at

Bah Gamma cheats!

Doom3 is creepy as hell with things in the dark, its no fun if you see the guy stalking you before he leeps at you

I personally dont like how it's so dark. Does'nt seem realistic enough for me. Hopefully JC will implement radiosity in his next rendering engine.

Coupel mor etweaks, it appears Doom isnt detecting Vram sizes correctly, in your DoomConfig.cfg you may wish to adjust the following settings:

seta image_downSizeLimit

"1024" for 256mb cards
"512" for 128mb cards
"256" for 64mb cards

You may also want to add the following line to an "Autoexec.cfg" file (be sure to write protect it though as Doom will otherwise automatically delete it)

seta com_videoram "xxx"

(where XXX is the size of your video card RAM in megabytes)

I've dropped the following lines into my Autoexec.cfg and they seem ot have helped with caching "stutter" quite a lot:

set image_usePrecompressedTextures "1"
set image_useNormalCompression "2"
set image_downSizeBumpLimit "512"
set image_downSizeBump "1"
set image_downSizeLimit "512"
set image_downSize "1"
set com_videoRam "128"
set r_usePortals "1"

By and large though none of the uber-tweaks that have worked for many peopel out there, have done anythign for my raw performance

Anyone forcing Anisotropic Filtering on via their graphics cards control panel should set them to use "Application Preference" etc, as Doom III's self applied is markedly faster (High quality mode gives 8xAF as standard and is much faster than forcing 8xPerformance AF in radlinker for me but with the same IQ)

while it is faster, my iq with game applied AF is HORRID
cp AF clears it right up

the poptimal value for set com_videoram is the amount of video ram you have on your graphics card. so if you have a 64MB card, 64MB is optimal, if you have a 128MB card, 128MB is optimal,...

the downsize tweaks improve performance, but they also lower the image quality.

On my system Doom II runs much faster in Win98SE than in WinXP (I can play w/ High details instead of Low @ 1024x768), so I post, how you can make Doom III run in Win9x:

to Enable windows 9x/Me support for original Doom 3 version 1.0 (6659308 bytes):

1. download any 'Hex Edit' utility
2. open Doom3.exe with it
3. go to offset 00374F1E and 00374F1F
4. change and save it as follows:
00374F1E: 45 ----change to---->00
00374F1F: 78 ----change to---->00
5.Run and enjoy it

If your majesty think that ID Software don't deserve your money because they made Doom 3 running on Windows 2000 or Windows XP and that's the reason why you have a pirate , illegal, cracked or whatever Doom 3 version follow the next steps:

1. download any 'Hex Edit' utility
2. open Doom3.exe with it
3. find the next string 'GlobalMemoryStatusEx'
4. replace the 'Ex' with 00,00 in HEX MODE!!!
5. save it
6. Run and enjoy it I have this tip from here (http://www.ingame.de/filebase/index.php?action=file&cid=141&fid=1663).

Don't think DOOM3 needed to be quite SO dark, but it is and occasionally you end up in total darkness with nothing but your reticle to tell you if your pointing at a bad guy or not.
Or you can use your flash light and have a look at whats ripping your face off. See if you can upset it by bopping it on the head with your torch. :D

I'd like to find some duct tape and fix the torch on to the weapon of my choice

yes there is and it's actually referred to by some as "the duct tape mod" :D
personally i like the tension of having to choose one or the other.

I have set up a hotkey to toggle between my selected weapon and the torch so it’s not a major problem.
Except when a surprise attack makes you panic and roll the wheel on your mouse instead of pressing the hot key and you end up with some inappropriate weapon.
It’s like “Ahhh, hit him, hit him. Not with that, where’s my blasted gun gone”
I just battered a zombie them with the back of the torch once in the hope that the Cadmium in the batteries might kill it. :D

I have set this hot key before i even started playing. so i am used to it from the beginning, so i never have this problem that i roll the mouse wheel instead of pressing the hot key.

I think it's quite funny actually. Doom3 is set in this futuristic world, with all these high tech weapons, and they haven't yet figured out how to have a light source on a gun. I wonder if the guy in Doom3 runs around with a couple of spare packs of Duracells in his pocket...
