Blue ray 23GB Drive, can you imagine normal DVD's moving this direction? In double layer we get 9GB or so, with blue ray, one layer is 23GB, so no more layer switching and more than twice the available size.

Crazy stuff.

Nice... According to that article, PS3 will also be backwards compatible with PS2 games.

That'll be interesting, particularly if they go with OGL as their API

I wonder how the new Blue Ray standard will fair against the other purposed new standards. It appears it will be fundamentally from the competing standards, unlike DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW was.

Take a look at DMD (Digital Multilayer Disc).

http://www.zzz.com.ru/index.php?area=issues&action=show_issue&issue_no=197&session_id=0

The basic gist of it, was that FMD tech was a new form of storage technology, using a cheaply manufactured transparent medium that allowed you to fit such amazing figures as 1 TERABYTE onto something the size of a normal CD

They changed the name from FMD to DMD.
