new comp/network probs

just bought a cheapo used compaq that i want to use for mass storage on my home network.
I currently have 2 wired desktops and a wireless laptop all browsing the internet fine.

router--linksys befw11s4
desktop1-- xp--cat5
desktop2--xp--cat5
laptop--wireless

compaq is running winme and is cat5 cabled
but cannot find the internet.
i have tried all the settings i could think of and i can ping the router and get a response from 192.168.1.1 but no response from www.google.com or www.yahoo.com.

i'm prolly missing something very basic. tyia

um ok. did you even bother running winipcfg and renewing your ip? win9x was weird sometimes in that it didn't always get the dns information correctly. sometimes the subnet mask is screwed up too. oh well. it works now, so dat's dat.
