Got doom3 at bestbuy this morning...

installed it

went to play it....

"cannot find disc 1, cd/dvd emulation software detected, please disable all cd/dvd emulation software and restart"

so i disable my alcohol virtual drives, and retry

same thing...

...the game must have so much copy protection built in that it can't even see its own cd's

I heard about FarCry and Painkiller having similar problems. Apparently you have to uninstall the software in question completely, although people have reported that installing it on a different partition/drive will work too.

Is this when installing or actually trying to start the game?

Jakk,

Its when trying to start the game...the splash screen comes up, then the activity light on the cd drive blinks a bunch, and that error comes up...the install went fine no prob...here's my setup in case anyone else experiences this problem...

A7N8X-E
2700+
1GB DDR400
9800Pro
Sony CD-RW
NEC DVD+RW

I tried putting the cd in both the cd and dvd drive and got the same results...instead of reinstalling, I made a trip over to gamecopyworld, and at least now I have the problem "bypassed" for now

*edit*

The game looks incredible! I'm running it at 1024/medium detail and its very playable...AA is off tho..

Jakk,

I followed your advice from a previous thread and tried running at high quality instead of medium quality...i expected a big framerate hit, but to my suprise i couldn't notice a significant framerate drop

A lot of people have noticed that performance is better in high quality mode than it is on medium.

Spooky
