I have long had a GeForce Ti4600 and Viewsonic monitor installed and working with a Win XP Pro machine.
About twice a week, (randomly) after starting the machine, the O.S. loads but ignores the Ti4600 and Viewsonic. It instead loads with a windows default VGA graphics setting AND 'default' monitor setting. This always happens with the graphics card and monitor together, never seperately. I check the windows Device Manager and suprisingly, it shows the Ti4600 and Viewsonic installed and "working properly." But the O.S. does not load them on boot up!

If I do nothing except reboot, the system always comes back on with the Ti4600 and Viewsonic recognized and properly working. This non recognition problem occurs about 2-3 times a week (about 15% of the time).

I have reinstalled the recent drivers, have no spyware or trojans, and besides this random but frustrating problem, the machine functions fine.

Any suggestions for solutions are greatly appreciated.

Does "recent drivers" include the motherboard chipset drivers?

Yes, I have upgraded the Bios of the Abit mobo as well. No other hardware has been added either.

Everything runs fine except when this anomoly of the video board and monitor not loading occurs. I have tried to resolve it for well over a month now. I am hoping someone on Sysopt comes up with a solution.
Tnx

Take the video card out an put it back in. Make sure the power is unplugged when you do this.

OK, I have purchased a brand new BFG graphics card which runs wonderfully fast.
HOWEVER.... I am still plagued with Windows OS randomly booting up with its generic default "video adaptor" running and not seeing the BFG graphics board. It always does the same generic default thing at the same time with the monitor. I know this happens since the screen scrolls with clumsy flashing like it was back in Itel 8088 PC prehistoria.

I have run out of ideas here. I have a new card installed properly, new drivers, run Perfect Disk defrag, have NO virus or trojans, and this problem continues to happen about 4 times a week. Bummer!

Any useful ideas really appreciated.
