I am experiencing some problems with my modem not being recognized by windows since I have swapped motherboards. My current computer consist of the following:
Mainboard - FIC VA-503+
CPU - Intel 200mmx
Memory - 64mb
Soundcard - Soundblaster AWE64
Videocard - Matrox Millenium
Modem - Bestdata 56k x2 Mach2
HDD - 2.1g (don't remember name)
I checked with tech support on Bestdata's website and they recommend a reinstall of windows due to me using the same harddrive that was used on the former board. Something to do with the windows registry info. I'm pretty new to all this computer tech stuff so I'm not quite clear on what my options are. I have tried to uninstall the modem and remove it from the device manager followed by a reinstall. Plug & Play installs the drivers, assigns COM3, and everything "appears" as though it will work. However, I am unable to run a diagnostic check on the modem and I receive a message that basically says that windows is unable to communicate with the modem or the modem is not enabled. Is a reinstall of windows my only option here? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I beleive that you may have to re-install windows since everything in your registry about your old board is conflicting with the communication of your new board or delete everything from Device Manager and let Windows Refind it on the next boot-up. These options may sound extreme but that's what I would most likly end up doing.
