When I boot up or reboot my computer, everything will load properly and as soon as all the TSR's are loaded, the cdrom drive begins to warm up for a few seconds during which I can't do anything. This only happens if there's a cd in it of course. My old drives didn't do this.
Are my drivers old or is it something else?

You didn't say what OS you're using but if it is a Win9x then it's sort of normal. You still ought to be able to do other stuff though. You aren't using a virus program, are you? Many virus programs do weird stuff like that too http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Oh yeah, I'm using Win98 and McAfee. Should this matter?

Check the settings in your virus program. It's probably doing a virus scan on your CDROM every time you start up.

Yup I agree with a Bill-make sure your McAfee is configured to scan program files only and not all files
