computer going blank

I have a HP pavilion 6343, Windows 98, sometimes when Im connecting to the internet my screen goes blank, power goes out, then it restarts in safe mode. It happened at least a half dozen times. any suggestions of help would be appreciated.

Perhaps you have the W95.CIH(chernobyl)virus. Just a possibility.

It describes some other symptoms, as well as ways of checking/cleaning it. I know that displsy randomly going blank is one of the symptoms. Make sure you download a scanner if you download "warez"

Dominus ~ what do you mean "make sure you download a scanner.." ? are you referring to updated AV definitions?
