Why can't I read my Win 98 CD DIR files when I access them from a boot disk? I am trying to install Win 98 on a new hard drive. I have created a primary partition and formatted it. When i try to access set-up there are no files in the 98 CD directory. I put in other CD's in D drive and the DIR command reads the contents of those CD's fine. This is the second WIN 98 CD that I have attempted in access. The first one I couldn't read so I returned it. The second one I also did not find any files on it. Whats wrong?
Are you trying to say you are actually booting the PC with your boot disk, it is loading the CD-ROM drivers and lets you access the cd drive by the drives correct letter?
And you see NO files on a brand new WIN98 CD?
If this is the case, I would try to read the CD on another PC, to verify it is in fact good, then if the CD is ok, I would look into where you could have gone wrong, like say you made extra partitions and now the CD is drive 'E' or something, verify by watching the CD drive access light when you dir the drive. If you can't come up with anything else, then I would suspect you have a drive/cabling/motherboard problem.
