Ok so I installed XP pro SP1, to my old computer (p3, 256mb RAM, 40gb maxtor) nothing fancy. Btw, used to be a HP system. It basically for my mom so she can do her stuff....pay bills, listen to tunes....etc. Anyways. The install goes fine, if not a little slow, but no problems. Then, it goes to the boot screen and as soon as its done w/that the screen goes black. monitor is not recieving any signal. I think its a Vid card problem (its got an old ATi 7500 PCI version) but i cant be sure. I need to dig up some speakers and connect them and see if i hear the loading sound after the screen cuts out. If i do then obviously its a vid card. But just for piece of mind....what do u guys think?

did you try booting to safe mode?

did you do a clean install or an upgrade?

when you say neg on safe mode do you mean you tried it and that doesn't work?

some hps had shared video memory. did you run memtest?

I meant neg, i havent tried it, however, i just did and it boots. Im not using the onboard mem, im using that radeon PCI. Now that Im in safe mode....what should I do? I cant really do much in safe mode, sooooo....what would be the next course of action?

You can go into Device Manager (in Safe Mode) and remove any video drivers. Then re-boot normally and see if you can get into Windows. Download the latest drivers for your video card and install them.

Good luck! :D

when I ask you a question, I expect you to try it not just tell me you didn't do it.

My bad dude, I work 12 hour days in a print shop and I dont have the time to sit down every day and work on my moms comp. I just try and get it done in the time i have (although ive been urging her to just let me buy her a a barebones rig or build one for her). Ok so remove vid drivers and get latest drivers for my card. Ok imma do that today, and let you know.
