I have a laptop that i reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition onto. I've connected it to my router to connect to my broadband internet connection. When i click on internet explorer, it brings up the internet connection wizard. On previous desktop computers i have installed, i go through to "connect to the Internet" > "Set up connection Manually" > "Connect using a broadband connection that is always on." Then i would restart and be able to connect to the internet. On this laptop, i do that, and it says "cannot find server". What are the steps i need to take on a Dell Laptop w/ Windows XP Home Edition (p4 2.4ghz) for it to autodetect my internet settings and be able to be online by jsut connectiong it to my router?
thanks

Please post your questions in the proper forum. Moved to networking.
did you refresh the IP? run cmd, then run ipconfig /renew.
you said you just did a reinstall. did you check the device manager to make sure your network card is working?

I went into Device Manager and found out that the Ethernet Controller, SM Bus Controller, and Video Controller Drivers have not been installed. Windows found no drivers for them. IS tehre any way i coul dinstall the drivers for them without having a drivre CD? For example, downlaod them of the internet? There is no information of the manufacturer,, driver provider, etc. Any suggestions?
thanks

EDIT: Nevermind, i found the solution on dell's support site.
