if it isn't one thing it's another. now i'm having irq problems. which i wasn't having till i installed my new hdd. i have a video capture card conflicting with my sound card now. when i 1st boot up, no sound. goto device manager and my sound card properties, under resources, says this (paraphrasing) "this device doesn't match any known configuration to assign to enable, set manually". and my vid card says "this device isn't using any resources, set manually". now when i set them both manually, they both work. until i reboot again. so really, now that i think of it, they aren't really conflicting. they just won't set automatically.
bleh, i've been beating my head against the monitor too much. oh well, ne ideas..or am i missing ne thing? oh yeah, i've tried removing them both from the device manager and reinstalling them. no go. and i also took my vid card completely out and the sound worked perfect then. put the card back in...same thing. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

btw, i have an abit mobo bx6r2 with a celery 333 o/c'd to 416. windows 98 installed.

Just a sujestion - delete those devices from
device manager, then reboot.

Sounds like they are conflicting. Change jumpers on one or the other for a different com or IRQ.
Sound cards like IRQ5, so 9, 10, 11, or 12 should be free for your vidcap card.

Try all different combinations of slot positions. Don't put a sound card or Nic or etc next to any AGP slot, it won't work.

PCI devices have IRQ's assigned in bios and sometimes it possible to reserve IRQ's in bios from ISA devices to allow PCI devices to function.

If you have a NON-INTEL mb, then you can't fix the impossible.

check out yer bios in the pnp menu and set it to auto or whatever.... remove all conflicting devices ... drivers + icons from device manager then reboot and pray....

here's the low down. i don't think it's an irq problem ne more. now i'm getting driver errors (codes). like now i'm getting a code 2 for my universal host controller. it says"The NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver (code 2)". then it says, "to fix this, click update driver to update the device driver". but my driver is up to date and it doesn't make ne difference. THEN i can goto recources and "set configuration manually". and it fixes itself. BUT as soon as i fix that, then my vid card set's the same kinda error, but a different code. i dunno, *shrug*. all this because of a new, better hard drive. i may just take it to the nearest shop and let them fix it. i'm about to my wits end here http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
thanx for all the suggestions, i'll keep you informed.
