For the last four days every time I try to boot-up my computer I get up to the point where the computer counts the memory and then it stops. I cannot access the BIOS and the drives won't work either. I've already checked the HD with another PC and it works fine. I suspect the there may be something wrong with the BIOS. How do i go by fixing that ? The AMIBIOS id is:CB02714. PLEASE HELP!!!
First verify that it is the bios.To do this disconnect all drives and remove all peripherals except the vid card. Then boot the system up and see if you can access the bios.If you can then use the set to default option in the bios to make sure everything is good in there. Then start adding components 1 by 1 until the problem pops back up.It may even be a bad ram card, does it complete the ram count or does it hang during? You can take your ram to the local puter store and have them test it.It really does not seem like bios since it starts and does the ram count but ya never know.Follow these steps and them get back to us with the results and we will try to help you further.

Yes it does complete the RAM count. I've already checked the RAM and it looks OK. And I also Checked all cards that I have in my PC on another PC and they all seem to work. I think that the only thing that remains is the BIOS and The motherboard. Were you able to check the AMIBIOS id # that I had sent to you. I heard that on some motherboards they is a key where if you press it resets the BIOS is that true ? I also heard that not too long ago there was a virus out that destroyed the BIOS when it came in contact with your computer ? Do you know anything about that ?

The virus you're talking about would be the W.95 CIH virus, a.k.a. Chernobyl virus. It activates on the 26th of each month, and has caused world-wide damage in the month of April '99. The virus infects all windows .EXE files, and if you leave it running wild in your computer for 3 days, chances are your system's windows .EXE files are totally infected beyond repair.
When the virus activates, it corrupts files, and might even damage ur motherboard's BIOS by flashing corrupted data into it. For more detailed information, you can go to http://www.symantec.com (Norton's Website) to learn more about this virus.
