I'm in need of a freeware HTML editor that is capable of processing SSI directives - the #include directive is the most important but more support is nice. I'm trying out Bash at the moment and it appears to work well but it's shareware (30 days) and i'm not sure if I like the interface just yet... looking for other options.

Close, but not quite. The avwSSi plugin for HTML-Kit simply allows the author to "include" SSI directives in their pages. I'm looking for an editor or plugin that will actually parse the SSI directives. In this case, map the #include directive back to the directory and "include" the specified file.

This works just fine in Bash HTML Editor - but it's shareware.

I'm not bashing you, but you really should consider finding a really good program and purchase it. There are quite a few HTML editors out there that do exactly what you are looking for...but it may be you have to buy something that has exactly what you want.

Using trusty Google, and if the description was right (it sometimes isn't)....HTML Builder XP should have what you are looking for. Although I haven't tried it..here is a link to their "lite" version, which is freeware.

I would try something new, but ever since I bought UltraEdit...I can't seem to use any other text editor (unless I'm in *nix..then it's VIM all the way).

I too am a VIM fan. :) The problem is that getting a purchase approved is like pulling teeth - this isn't for personal use. I am aware of apps such as Dreamweaver that are capable of doing what I want, I was just being hopeful that there was something freeware that was at least capable of processing SSI #include directives.

HTML Builder XP doesn't appear to process SSI either. Oh well... thanks for the help tho.

Processing the includes isn't something the everyday HTML builder/dev uses ;-). I'll keep looking around, but it'll be rare to find a free one.
