Hi,

I have a computer with Pentium II 300 Hz processor on ASUS motherboard P2L97(ATX) running windows 98 and Redhat 6.0.

The problem is that lately the computer often reboots automatically itself. This can happen at any time and be irregular. The power supply is stable in my living place and all the cable connections seem to work well. Also I don't think it's the problem with OS because it happens with both windows and linux. I totally have no idea what's wrong.

Could anybody help to figure out the problem?

Thanks a lot!

I ran into a similar problem with a new system I was putting together. To begin with, it would not boot at all. Then once it did finally boot up, it would reboot with no apparent cause.

Finally by accident, I was working on it without the cover and touched the metal chassis. Boom, the computer rebooted. It turned out that there was a short in the Power button.

You can use the reset button as a power switch by attaching it to the power connector on the motherboard. If the reboots continue, then it is not a short.

Good luck.
