I am having trouble with 2 drivers I downloaded for my zip 100. I got the drivers I was supposed to but after I downloaded them I tried to lauch both of them and i got the error, "C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\win9x_iom113_em.exe is not a valid win32 application. I got this win32 error with both apps. Anyone know what causes these errors?
what are those drivers supposed to do? are those compressed (archived) files?
to run a parallel zip drive, you only need to run a utility called guest (DOS) or guest95.
if its an atapi...can't help you. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

win9x_iom113_em.exe is decompressed on my desktop and it is supposed to be the complete install for the drivers I need to use my ZIP 100 external SCSI, but when I try to execute that file i get that error

You could try to download those drivers again. Sometimes (and i don't know why) files get corrupted during a download. If the process doesn't take too long, I would try downloading them again, perhaps from a different site if that's an option.

is win9x_iom113_em.exe the archive file, or was it extracted from the archive file?
you could try using a archive utility like winzip to make sure the files are uncompressed correctly.

thanks socalgal your idea worked, but the zip drive still isn't cooperating. When I go to add new hardware should it detect the zip drive? I have it plugged in but I'm not seeing any proof that my computer even knows it there. I installed everything and tried to use guest.exe in dos but it just told me no drives were created any ideas? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
you did plug it into your scsi card, right? (don't mean to insult you, but the parallel connector looks exactly like a scsi db25 connector). try go into your scsi card setup to see if the scsi card sees the zip drive.
you wouldn't go into add hardware, i don't think, cuz you need guest to have it recognized as a scsi device.

sorry about that all just got my new computer and I had it built at a local place in the valley so I'm still trying to figure everything out. I'm not sure if they gave me a SCSI adapter or not. Is there a way I could check?
try and bear with me, I switched platforms not to long ago.
if you have a scsi zip drive there should be a scsi symbol on the right side 25pin connector -- it looks like a stylized "g" or a diamond. on the back of your case somewhere should be a connector for your scsi card. it would be a double row of really tight looking holes. also, in windows in the device manager, it should list a scsi controller that is NOT labeled as "iomega parallel port zip interface".
if you dont see that symbol, or if you see a printer symbol, then you have a parallel port zip drive. that should plug into your parallel port right by the two 9 pin serial ports.
have fun digging around.
