I have a Creative 32X CD-ROM. I have noticed that the CD drive is spinning up and down quite a lot during games and also during audio playback. Are there any settings in Windows 98 or system or device manager that optimise the CD drive so that I get rid of the disturbing noise and the jittery performance from the starting and stopping of the CD ? Thanks for your help.
that's just the facts of a high speed cdrom drive -- it cant be spinning at 32X all the time, so it frequently spins down.
i think there are utilities that keep it from spinning down so often (esp for games), but dont know where to find one. check all the shareware places.
I have same problem and I try find some software, but I haven't found anything yet ..
One thing can help if you turn off cdrom caching in system properties->perfomance->cdrom and there select no read ahead. In my computer it helps a litle
The spinup does suck. The next drive I get for speed will be the Kenwood 40X, it does the data speed without hi rpm winding and its associated noise, but it cost $100
