Error received while booting:
"While initializing device ios:
error: an i/o subsytem driver failed to load.
either a file in the .\iosubsys subdirectory is corrupt, or the system is low on memory."
This is a friends computer. He says it just started happening, no explanation. After I receive the error, ctl-alt-del will allow me to boot to windows 95 in safe mode only. Next time I shut down, same error. Viscious circle. This is an acer pentium 200, 32 megs ram, 4 gig drive, modem, printer. Any ideas? Any questions? Thanks for any help. Oh, also com1 was not working, I changed settings in the device manager, rebooted but com1 still showed problem. I REMOVED com1 in device manager, rebooted and still can only boot safe mode (and now win95 will not recognize com1 or try to install it). Huh!?

Go into SAFE MODE ..

Click START|find|files and folders

search for smartdrv.exe

rename both smartdrv.exe files to another extention.. (smartdrv.xxx , smartdrv.123)

restart system and if it goes into windows ur okay..

if it does not go back to SAFE MODE

Find file RMM.PDR

rename that file and restart system..
