I reinstalled Windows on my sister's computer. I unhooked the DSL modem from my computer and hooked it to my sister's computer. From my sister's computer to connect to the internet, I entered logged onto htpp:// (numbers) that were on the bottom of the DSL modem and entered the unique number of the DSL modem once I hit the site.

Is there anything I have to do extra to make sure that once my sister puts her DSL modem on her computer, she doesn't connect through my account. We are both customers of SBC/Yahoo.

Isn't there a PPPoE logon? If so, why aren't the two of you using unique logons? That's all you need to do.

I'm in San Francisco. My sister lives in San Jose. After I was done with her computer, I couldn't find a way to "disconnect" except to unplug the modem.

I just wanted to make sure that when she got her computer back that she has to use her own connection. I was just worried something was left over in the bowels,,,

Ray, if you were using a router, it was likely "dialing in". If not, it was a program dialing for you. In the latter case, you are going to have to sort your startup programs.

Would I go into the TCP/IP Settings and Delete "DHCP Enabled?"

No. Why would you do that?

I will say this one more time - DSL usually requires a logon. Find out if yours does. CALL THEM. Ask. I have no blinking idea what system your ISP uses. You are paying them. Call them.

Find out if your sister's PC is automatically logging on or not. If it is, stop it from doing so *after you've checked the logon*. It may be HER logon. I can't tell you. You need to do this yourself.

Bill, thanks for your patience. I am dealing with customer service from India. It took me three calls to get someone who actually understood the problem: I want to uninstall SBC from the computer.

My dense head didn't see any program get installed on this computer. I just connected to the internet and went to a particular site.

But that you were telling me that I should be looking for a program, I did.

Thanks...

Ray

For the uninitiated (like myself) apparently when the modem got set up, it keeps ta record of my username, password, etc. After that, the modem will connect by itself to the internet.
