I just upgraded one of the two computers on my home network to XP Pro from 2000 Pro. The other computer is still running 2000 Pro. The 2000 pc can access the XP pc, but the XP pc can't access the 2000 Pc. When I try to access the 2000 pc, I am asked for a user name and password. Both are connected to the internet thru a router and cable modem and both are able to connect. Any suggestions?

When you installed XP pro did you use the same user name and password that you were using with 2000? Doesnt sound like it or XP is logging you on differant.

You just have to enter a user name and password that the 2000 machine will accept. If you have access to it try adding a differant user on the 2000 rig and setting up rights so that user can access what you want to access then try from the XP rig to access the 2000 rig with the user name and password you just created.

yes you were using a username and password, even if you didn't know it. look at the users in the control panel. make sure the names match on both computers. this was in the "best of" thread.
