I have DSL, with one desktop connected to my linksys befw11s4 router with an ethernet cable, and 3 laptops connected wirelessly. I don't know why, but transfer of information between the computers is very slow. The internet works fine, and I used to be able to use the printers on the desktop wirelessly, but I seem to be having trouble with that now too. Any ideas on what could cause there to be slow communication between the computers? All run windows xp home, and have all the windows updates.
Thanks,
Richard
Welp, IEEE 802.11a/b/g IS slow, at least when compared to 10/100 LAN:t
What are the transfer speeds you're getting, more details maybe ?

and have all the windows updates
That is the first thing I would check, ive had updates kill machines. One of them might have changed some setting somewhere. Sorry i cant be more specific, not sure which one to check first.
Hadnt recently gotten a new wireless phone either have you? Or maybe the neighbors? Ive got a toshiba wireless phone that messes with my wireless network when in use

Check out the sticky thread and the part about: "Speed up network (LAN) browsing in Win2K/XP"

802.11b is just slow. it's 11mbps AT BEST.

While it's 11mbps at best, shouldn't it be better than .5mb/s, especially if only the two computers are on, and the laptop is in the same room as the router? I tried the sticky, and while that speeded up finding new shared folders, it didn't speed up file transfer. Also, no is the answer to any new cell phones.
Thanks,
Richard
