I'm new to setting up a wireless network. I am running Windows XP Pro on both my desktop and laptop (Dell Inspiron XPS)

I've got a Linksys WRT54GS Wireless G Broadband Router (with Speedbooster) along with a WPC54GS Wireless G Notebook Adapter (with Speedbooster).

I cannot get my laptop to connect to the internet. However, the laptop does recognize the wireless connection, but won't connect to the internet. I made sure the SSID is the same.

Hopefully someone can help. I'm sure it is some simple configuration that I am overlooking.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I can provide more info if needed.

Thanks for the help.

I use WPA-PSK because it is the safest right now. Good directions here

Make sure firewalls are disabled. Get it going then enable them.

I'm trying to access my laptop for file sharing with my DESKTOP PC via a WIRELESS NETWORK.

I am using a LINKSYS WRT54GS Broadband Router (with Speedbooster) and a LINKSYS WPC54GS Notebook Adapter (with Speedbooster).

I am able to access my DESKTOP PC via my DELL LAPTOP for file sharing using the MAP NETWORK DRIVE option. However, I cannot access my DELL LAPTOP via my DESKTOP PC for file sharing using the MAP NETWORK DRIVE.

I made sure all the drives (D, E, H) are shared on DESKTOP PC and the drive (C) is shared on my DELL LAPTOP.

When I try to ping my DELL LAPTOP from my DESKTOP PC, it times out. However, I can ping my DESKTOP PC with my DELL LAPTOP.

I am using Microsoft Windows XP PRO on both machines.

Hopefully I haven't confused you too much.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I was able to connect my laptop to the internet. I had to physically input the IP address and DNS server numbers rather than allow it to automatically obtain the IP address and DNS server numbers.

disable all security on your router and nic until you get a solid connection. make sure that dhcp is enabled on the router. if you are still having problems, try disabling the wireless zero configuration service and only use the linksys nic utility.
