Hi,

I've got quite an annoying problem with Windows XP Pro.

When I click on the Show Desktop button on my toolbar, it naturally minimizes all the windows as you would expect.

The problem is that, more often than not, Windows freezes for about 5 seconds after doing it. The desktop appears but has nothing on it. The toolbar is still in view but hangs too. Once it un-freezes the desktop repaints and everything goes back to normal.

I can't see anything in the event viewer of any concern.

Any ideas?

Neil.

So you're saying the only problem is the delay in seeing the icons come back? What are your system specs?

yes, basically. The whole system just sits there with the egg timer.

Windows XP Pro
Intel 2.66 ghz Pentium 4
512 mb RAM
NVidia Geforce 5600 Ultra Graphics (128mb)
DX9.0b

Try turning off "active desktop"

Failing that, instead of show desktop (win+d), Try "minimize all" (win+m, win+M to undo) and get used to using that instead :/ (it works much the same but is actually a little better).
