NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – Nintendo's president doesn't mince words: The gaming industry, he believes, is in the midst of a crisis of innovation, which could lead to its demise.

They may die..but I will always enjoy playing my SuperNintendo and Nintendo 64 games...especially the Zelda games...http://www.fancysplace.com/smileys/shar.gif
Nintendo is not 'dead' yet?
In Singapore, you can hardly find a computer shop selling Nintendo Gamecubes or the games.

I hope they stick around, with there dominance in the portable area, I think that will save them and not go the way of sega.

Nintendo should either focus on their handheld dominance, or really gear their next system to an older crowd. They can keep the old titles that always sell, but need to attract some big name console exclusive titles that are for the 12years+ owners.

Nintendo has always fiound away to sell, the Gamecube wasn't exactly a bad seller, sold a huge amount. But it could be the final blow for Nintendo if their next system isn't up with the times.

They need to go all out hand held, and Im not talking the steps they were taking, like gameboy, to gameboy pocket, to gameboy color. Gameboy advance owns, but Id really like to see something like Nintendo 64 in a handheld. either that, or hit up cartrages again, and use PSI express as the transfer. I dislike CD's, because there is always a seek time. (haven't played a lot of console's, so if this is wrong, no flames please:D )

Your right about the seek time, that was the big disadvantage to cd's and that's why nintendo thought that cartridges were the way to go instead of cd's b/c that's what the playstation used (it's competitor at the time).
We both know what won, and I always knew cd's would come out on top b/c of the sheer amount of information they can hold, and now dvd's can hold even more.
I remember my friend thought cartridges were going to come out on top, and I told him he's crazy.
Most people can deal with the seek times, as long as its a good game, so it's not really that big of a deal.
It's not like you can 'insert cardtridge 2' so the space they offered just wasnt enough for big games like final fantasy, and such that had breath taking cgi scenes and rich in music, ect... and that won the gamers over.
I think that's really why playstation won is b/c so many games were made, cd's are cheaper to produce, and the cgi scenes nintendo64 had nothing like. Plus the playstation had more violent games and that always attracts alot of gamers. I know it does for me, I hate it when I dont see any blood or even worse 'green blood'.

Nintendo will fail if it does not stop re-releasing its junk games over and over again. Mario and such were fun the first couple of times they were "re-made" but it is getting old and fast. They need something new. The Nintendo DS that is to be released will not get anywhere because it is a concept that has many shortcomings. If you want a real handheld, wait for Sony's PSP.

Seeing that the Nintendo classics are some of their best sellers, I don't think thats the reason they'd go under, if indeed they do. I doubt it though. Like Yoshi said, the GameCube didn't do bad, last I checked it actually outsold xbox people seem to think the xbox did really well, which would mean nintendo did atleast as good... Believe it or not there are A LOT of young (sometimes very young) kids out there that enjoy playing video games. Nintendo has a niche market and there is no reason for them to cater to the "older crowd," Thats what PS2, XBOX, and the PC are for. Nintendo could very possibly do WORSE if it caters to older folks becuase then it really gets into the territory of the other consoles and PCs.

Nintendo have already announced a new handheld that actually sports more processing power than the N64 did:
